Sligo Traveller Support Group hosting Pancake lunch for Mental Health Ireland

On ‘Pancake Tuesday’ February 13th Sligo Traveller Support Group will a host a fundraising event in aid of Mental Health Ireland (MHI). The initiative called ‘Smiley Pancake’ is part of a series of nationwide activities on the day all in support of MHI. The idea behind ‘Smiley Pancake’ campaign nationally is to encourage people to connect with each other be that with your friends, family or work colleagues. Meeting and talking or reconnecting with family and friends is a positive way of improving your own well-being and helping create healthier communities. Sligo Traveller Support Group are inviting everyone to call to their offices in Cranmore (directly opposite Aldi in Cranmore) on Tuesday Feb 13th between 12midday and 2pm where they will be treated to some pancakes, friendly faces and a chat.

Jamie Murphy of the Sligo Traveller Support Group said “We are delighted to host the ‘Smiley Pancake’ event. It is an issue of particular concern to us with suicide rates for Traveller men over 7 times higher than the rest of the population and over 6 times higher for Traveller women. Anything that promotes positive mental health and well-being is something we really feel is important to be a part of. We hope to see plenty of people with us on Tuesday Feb 13th”. You can donate 4 euro to Mental Health Ireland by texting MHI to 50300. For more information contact Sligo Traveller Support Group on 0719145780.
