Course: Writing for Print

  • To commence on 2nd March 2015.
  • Duration: 4 Hours –  9.30am to 1.30pm (half hour tea/coffee break with light refreshments provided)
  • Venue: Involve Ltd., Monksland Business Park, Athlone, Co Roscommon.

The sessions will be designed to give participants the knowledge and skills required when submitting articles (including press releases) to different publications and readerships, i.e. magazine, tabloid, broadsheet, social media and broadcast media (TV/Radio).

 Subject headings will be:

  • Structuring a story/deciding on a theme.
  • Feature Writing/Interviewing Techniques.
  • Research Skills.
  • Profile Features/Case Studies/Service Pieces/Opinion Editorials
  • Writing a Press Release/Identifying your target audience/readership demographic/knowing your market.
  • Preparing for and conducting yourself during a TV/Radio interview and getting your key message across.
  • Writing a review.
  • Importance of correct grammar/spelling/meeting deadlines.
  • A publication’s House Style – Identifying it and working to it.
  • Professional Practice – Libel/Defamation/Slander/Injurious Falsehood/Fair Comment – NUJ Codes of Conduct.


The fee for this course will be €250 per participant. (€25 per person per one, four hour session).

Sessions are limited to 14 participants and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

All sessions must be paid for in full on commencement.
